Devin’s Reflection

My uncle, Father Bill Atkinson lived with strength, humor, and never gave up. Although I was not alive to remember my uncle Bill, he has influenced our family overtime to stay positive even through the toughest times. I see my Uncle Bill through the friends of Father Bill.

Luckily I have had the opportunity to spend time with the Friends of Father Bill. They have taught me character, love, and friendship through the few times I have spent with them. It is so amazing to realize how similar we truly are, always up for a great time, bonding about what movies and songs we love and more. Most importantly it gives us the chance to learn from each other and our different experiences in life.

The Friends of Father Bill often come to my school, the Academy of Notre Dame and we have the opportunity to spend time with this extraordinary group. Whether it’s learning how to dance, play basketball, karaoke, you name it! It is always a fun time and an amazing experience. Unfortunately, we cannot all do the activities so you have to be incredibly quick to sign up! Even if you are unable to sign up, walking up to have a quick conversation to catch up between classes, or receive a big big hug will always brighten my day. Nothing is better than walking out of a classroom, especially during a long day to see these familiar faces. Not to mention, familiar faces always with the biggest smile on their face.

By spending time with the Friends of Father Bill, I have been able to learn even more about my uncle Bill than I have ever learned from my family.  It’s been a neat different view of him. It is so incredible that other people look up to him and his strength just as much as my family and I do. I am so thankful to have met the Friends of Father Bill and be able to call them friends of my own. Their strength and talents do not go unnoticed and it is so special to be able to spend these important moments with them.
