Celebrating Diversity with the Fr. Bill Atkinson Service Corps

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

The week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January, the Fr. Bill Atkinson Service Corps celebrated diversity in multiple ways!

First, on Monday, Service Corps members engaged in service to the community by making meals for those in need as well as cards for first responders.

On Wednesday, we headed out into the community to serve at Teachers’ Teammate, an organization with the mission to ensure all K-12 teachers and students in Delaware County, PA have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

Friday was for learning, engaging, and celebrating! We danced with Sheila, dreamt with MLK, had speakers on diversity, and made Liberian food in the kitchen.

When we were dreaming with MLK, we discussed who he was and what he stood for. We also reflected on our dreams and ambitions as well as how we love celebrating diversity and differences!

Our friends Leo and Portia shared their experiences with diversity. Portia is from Washington, DC while Leo is from El Salvador. They offered wonderful perspectives on what they have gone through and how important diversity is to them!
Our very own OT shared her culture with us as she taught us how to make Liberian food! It was phenomenal and we learned a ton about her country.
