Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is John Thomas. I have an older brother Brian, who is 33 years old and not married yet, and a twin brother Matt, who is married to Kat and they have a new baby, Henry.
I went to St. Denis School in Havertown until the 5th grade, then on to Haverford Middle and High School. I wanted to attend college like my brothers and my parents found a great program for me. I attended the GROW Program at The Riverview School in East Sandwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The program was for three years and I also attended the Project Forward Program at Cape Cod Community College. I graduated from these programs in 2012 and came home to Ardmore to my job at the Acme in Bryn Mawr.
I play volleyball, basketball, and floor hockey for Special Olympics, Delaware County. We usually attend The Fall Fest at Villanova and the Summer Special Olympics at Penn State. I love playing these sports and being with my friends.
I am also a participant in The Father Bill Atkinson Service Corps. The Corps started in September and I love everything that we do.
What special gift(s) do you bring to Father Bill Atkinson Service Corps?
I love my friends and I try to help them when they need it. I am happy and I hope I help others to be happy.
How do you have fun with your friends at FABSC?
We do exercises together, we pray together, we learn new things, and we laugh a lot. We also write letters to thank people for their help and kindness to us and our program
What’s your favorite way to volunteer and give back to the community?
We have gone to different places to help others. No matter where we go or what we do, we have fun doing it. Our volunteering is the best because we are like Father Bill. He helped others with help from his friends and we do the same thing.
What are you looking forward to doing most this spring / summer?
I can't wait to spend time at the shore with my family and especially Henry, my new nephew. I am going to take Henry to Father Bill’s bench on the boardwalk. He’d like that!
